Selwyn Image Tote Bag Embroidery Kit
This kit is based upon a design of birds by Selwyn Image. Image (1849–1930) was a leading British artist, designer, writer and poet with close links to the Arts and Crafts Movement. After an early career in the church he studied with the architect and designer A. H. Mackmurdo and went on to produce many designs for stainedglass and furniture as well as embroidery. From 1910 to 1916 he was the Slade Professor of Fine Art at Oxford. The design featured in this kit is one of a number that Image created for the RSN Embroidery Studio.
Goldwork Coronation Inspired Embroidery Kits
The RSN is honoured to have Her Majesty the Queen as our Patron and were particularly delighted to design and create her Robe of Estate. The RSN’s Studio team produced some of their best work in the design and creation of this piece in modern goldwork techniques. We were particularly thrilled when Her Majesty agreed to the Studio to producing individual kits inspired by six of the flowers from the design.
Partridge in a Pear Tree
This stylised and dynamic design from the Royal School of Needlework design archive was originally designed for a canvas work stool top in the 1980s. The studio has reworked the design for this kit using appliqué and metal thread embroidery.
Jacobean Style – An Embroidered Sewing
The motifs for this design is inspired by Stumpwork panels created during the 17th and 18th Centuries. In the 1990s Stumpwork embroidery had an enormous resurgence due to a number of the technique based publications on the subject. Subsequently Stumpwork was introduced onto the Apprenticeship and Certificate course.
Nature’s bounty, Embroidered Apron
There are numerous handbag designs from the 1950s/60s and we found this charming design of fruit and foliage. We felt it would be great for an apron worked in a range of surface stitches with some detail, along with the chance to add extras to make it your own. Printed straight onto the apron and worked in a selection of colours, it will be a must for when you are cooking.
Plum blossom Branch
This beautiful design as been taken from a RSN design in our archive which would have originally been a four panel screen and is inspired by the Japanese Revival that took place in the 1870s. Japanism is a French term that refers to the popularity and influence of Japanese art following the forced reopening of foreign trade with Japan in 1858
