The Coronation of Charles III
The RSN Embroidery Studio worked on nine pieces for the 2023 coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla: the King’s Robe of State; the Queen’s Robe of Estate; the Anointing Screen; the Stole Royal and Girdle; the Chairs of Estate and the Throne Chairs.
Anointing Screen for the coronation of Charles III
For the coronation of Charles III, the RSN Embroidery Studio helped to create the three-sided anointing screen used to keep the moment of the King’s anointing from public view.
The Queen Consort’s Robe of Estate
The RSN Embroidery Studio designed and hand embroidered the Robe of Estate for Queen Camilla, worn after the coronation. The embroidered design of the train draws on the themes of nature and the environment, featuring the national emblems of the United Kingdom.
The King’s Robe of State
The RSN Embroidery Studio conserved the King's Robe of State for the coronation of Charles III. The robe was worn on arrival at Westminster Abbey.
The RSN hand-embroidered a new coat of arms for the Queen Consort's Throne Chair. We also conserved the original embroidered coat of arms on the King's throne chair and lightly cleaned it before transferring it onto new velvet.
