The Fisherman

We often say in the Studio that pieces come along like buses, all at once, and we have had this with chairs over the last 18 months. We were approached by a client who had commissioned a chair to be upholstered in the most amazing fabric depicting country scenes and fishermen, all in shade of green on a pale cream coloured background.

Family treasure in canvas work dating 1715

We are brought many pieces of embroidery that have a family connection, this has to be one of the oldest pieces that has been in the family from the day it was worked. This embroidered piece is in canvas work and worked by the client's ancestor back in 1715.

Chinese ‘Goldfish’ shoes

A client sent us, for cleaning and repair, the most delightful pair of Chinese shoes embroidered with fish using fine floss silk thread.

Swan Chairs

We do like a challenge in the Studio so when we were approached by Furniture Designer, Florencia Bacci to work with her on her chair, we were really excited to be involved.

A treasure Sabretache

A sabretache is a flat leather pouch or satchel historically worn by cavalry soldiers, suspended from the saber belt to carry documents and small items. They are often heavily embroidered in metal threads with iconography representing the regiment.

Altar Frontal Transfer

We often have pieces to complete for Christmas and a charming purple frontal from a church in West Sussex was one such piece.

Revolutionary Napoleonic Chairs

In the wake of the new 2023 film ‘Napoleon’, the RSN Embroidery Studio restored the embroidery on two Napoleonic chairs. The client purchased the two chairs from an auction house, and they came with a provenance suggesting that Napoleon himself owned them and they could be found in his home.

The Coronation of Charles III

The RSN Embroidery Studio worked on nine pieces for the 2023 coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla: the King’s Robe of State; the Queen’s Robe of Estate; the Anointing Screen; the Stole Royal and Girdle; the Chairs of Estate and the Throne Chairs.

Au Bon Marché chair restoration for Salvage Hunters

The studio restored the worn embroidery on this Au Bon Marché chair for the television series Salvage Hunters.

Lady Carnarvon’s Coronation Robe

The RSN’s Embroidery Studio recently undertook the restoration and conservation of a robe worn by Lady Carnarvon to King George V’s Coronation in 1911.

‘Evergreen’, embroidered wall hanging

This large wall hanging was embroidered for the artist Katie Paterson. The work, entitled Evergreen, reflects the style of the arts and crafts movement and depicts every extinct flowering plant.
